Wearing matching outfits with your spouse, parents or kids is always fun. It is also a way of celebrating the unconditional love and bond that you all share as a family. However, it may be quite daunting to choose outfits which are not only coordinated but also expresses the wearer’s personality. In this week’s blog, we will share a few tips along with a few outfit examples that you can consider for the next family gathering or photo shoot.
The first thing to take into consideration is the occasion for which you and your family are planning to wear coordinated outfits. This will help you in choosing the colour palette and type of outfit to be worn by each family member.
For example, if it is a wedding, you can go for Traditional Outfits. For an outdoor photo shoot, you can pick more casual outfits such as Frocks, Kurtas and printed shirts for the men in the family. If it is an indoor photo shoot, you need to choose outfits that will go well with the backdrop. Include your photographer when you are discussing outfits as they can suggest which colours will look best on camera.
When choosing color schemes, keep in mind that you want your family's outfits to look well put together rather than looking uniform. Avoid going for perfectly matching outfits and instead focus on creating a smooth, unified look. You can wear clothes that belong to the same color family. You can also wear the same prints such as Bandhani, Ajrakh or ikat in different colours.
In the picture below, you can see how the couple has worn traditional outfits in earthy tones to match the backdrop. You can take this as an inspiration for photo shoots. The saree and Shirt-Dhoti ensemble look good together while not seeming overly matchy-matchy.
In this picture, you can see that the family has chosen a classic red-orange colour combination. While each outfit stands out independently, they all work together to create a coherent look.
We have a mother-daughter ensemble over here. The similarity between these outfits is the colour and the prints. When you notice closely, you will notice that there is a slight variation in the shade of blue between the two outfits. Though the prints look similar, the saree is a patola weave whereas the Pavadai Set has ikat prints on it.
Here is another example. In the above two pictures, the prints are the point of commonality. The first picture has a brown kurta and green shirt-dhoti set with Ajrakh prints and the second picture has a brown kalamkari anarkali and maroon pavadai sattai set. Over here, though the prints are the same, the colours are different.
